What is Intellectual Property?
The most common question I hear is: what is Intellectual Property (IP)?
IP refers to creations of the mind, such as inventions; literary and artistic works; designs; and symbols, names and images used in commerce. It is the intangible assets of every business owners, writer, creative director, musician, artists and idea brain box of literally every Nigerian.
Most intangible assets are not well monetized; while those that are, face serious challenges of piracy. For example, Some Nigerian artists have lost a lot due to their failure to take advantage of their copyright. Many do not know the proper value of their copyright; some have left their copyright to lie fallow. It is no secret that some even died in abject poverty, while they could have lived a better life if they tapped from the gains of their copyright which is a type of Intellectual Property and make something out of it.
Infringement on ones IP is as good as someone forcefully collecting your physical assets, which is robbery. Every area of our economy has its own IP but the most basic knowledge where one can understand that the property in question is an intangible one because it does not possess physical structure but the idea behind it drives it, is where I as your legalipcoach hopes to step in and fill that gap strongly.
As an Attorney I have overseen hundred of registrations, worked on the implementation of several compliance policies and procedures, reviewed several contractual documents, trademarks and managed portfolios by engaging and liaising with both internal and external team members.
I also possess years of public speaking training on intellectual property, its advancement and awareness for local businesses, young lawyers and intended business owners in Africa through my trainings and academic qualifications including my affiliation with World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
Over the past few years of my career, I have developed the skill sets of providing key advise to stakeholders with key attention to detail based on sound understanding and awareness of key laws and regulations on client instructions, seeing each issue through to its resolution within a set time.

Basic IP Service
Our basic IP service is a free monthly foundational crash course on Intellectual Property & Legal Business Operations in Nigeria.
The incentive behind it is to achieve a community which sees IP as a driver of global innovation and to take advantage of the opportunities behind it.
The classes hold every last Friday of the month and the slots are between 7-10 people on a first come first serve basis. It is open to everyone who wants to gain a general knowledge on IP with little or no prior experience.
